About the Artist

Hello, my name is Luciola Pires, and I’m an illustrator from Brazil, based in London since 2015.

I specialise in children’s illustration, packaging, and surface design and work for museums and education.

I’m fascinated by fashion history and textiles and enjoy creating illustrations exploring history and heritage. Since completing my MA in Illustration in 2023, I have been dedicated to working on a series of projects around these themes.

In my free time, you’ll often find me drawing from observation in museums, crafting miniatures, delving into books for reading and research, and volunteering for my local community. These activities continually inspire my artwork and fuel my passion for storytelling through illustration.

TESTIMONIALS

As an illustrator, Luciola is incredibly driven and creative, working with an attention to detail and an awareness of the story she is telling. Her professionalism means working with her is enjoyable: her experience collaborating with museums to produce illustration work in book and exhibition format instils a confident nature to Luciola’s work. It’s been lovely to see her practice develop.

I was lucky enough to work with Luciola during our Illustration MA through Falmouth Flexible. As an online course, it would be easy to feel disconnected from others studying on the course, but throughout our 9-month-long Final Major Project, Luciola organised and ran weekly study and critique sessions, providing an opportunity to meet with other students. Taking the lead on each session, Luciola created a safe space to discuss our work, providing thoughtful feedback in a professional manner. These sessions were invaluable to me, with Luciola’s own work, her level of organisation and attention to detail inspiring me to try new techniques within my own work, and push myself to create the best work that I could.

I had the pleasure of working with Luciola on an illustrated exhibition on Tudor fashion. She is a joy to work with and throws herself into the research behind her work with passion and enthusiasm. Seeing her bring the ideas to life and conceptualise an exhibition suitable for all ages was incredible! I look forward to seeing the projects she works on next.
